Meditations on Gaia

March 26, 2024

Have you ever had a new concept, or one that you may be vaguely aware of, start to show itself more prominently in your reality? It begins to pop up in different ways, like a little “tap, tap, tap” on your shoulder. To me it feels almost like the Universe is saying, “Hey you! Look over here!” Over the course of the last week, when consuming different types of media (podcasts, Instagram, etc.) I have stumbled across individuals speaking on Gaia. In a recent healing session, which was gifted to me by my mentor Allie Pratt as a tool for other students to observe and learn from, the concept of Gaia came up not only once, but two completely unrelated times. I decided that this was a message that I am meant to connect more with this energy.

What is Gaia?

Well, all I knew about the word “Gaia” was that it was a spiritual TV channel and website! During my Kundalini Reiki training, I was taught how to connect into the Earth’s energy first thing every day and before healings. I have felt this powerful energy during my healing sessions since Kundalini energy is gifted from the Earth. After deep diving into this topic more extensively, I found that Gaia is the concept of Earth conscious, and this concept is found throughout every culture. This energy is almost always viewed as feminine. For example, Mother Earth is a phrase used widely across western cultures.

Looking into Gaia further

When I tapped into this energy further, I felt the raw power it holds. I felt Earth not as just a planet, but a living, ancient, conscious being who holds power and emotion. When you think of a mother, there may be many feelings that come to mind, depending on your history with your own mother, and female figures you have experienced in your lifetime. When I view Gaia, I tap into the concept of the Ultimate Mother, of everything a mother holds, feels, and experiences across space and time. This mother has a rooted strength and power within her. She is the ultimate giver of life on this planet and holds deep, infinite love for all she has created. Being the creator of life is, at many times, sacrificial. Mother Earth is not just mother to humanity, but mother to all living things and witness to all of our wonders, successes, and failures. Many human mothers may relate to this. We are filled with joy when our children are in pure states of happiness. As the co-creator and portal into this world for these beings, watching them grow, stumble, and find their way is one of our greatest blessings and greatest hardships. When we witness our children make mistakes, be hurt by others, quarrel, and experience pain, we may feel as if we are experiencing this pain ourselves. As our children grow, and especially as they enter into adolescent/teen years this pain can become amplified. No longer can a kiss on the knee or a hug from mom make the pain go away. No longer are they easily distracted by a difficulty they just experienced with a popsicle or a change in activity. Our children hold their pain in a new way as their minds try to make sense of all they are experiencing. Quite often they push us away instead of coming to us for comfort. Quite often, they try to push their pain on us, and treat us in a way that hurts our souls. And because we are human, even as mothers who hold the deepest love imaginable for our children, we may push back against them. Enter in: the mommy guilt cycle!

What to do with all this knowledge?

It makes sense to me that humanity is in its adolescent stage. We are hurting, we are seeing others hurting on this planet, but we really aren’t sure what the hell to do about it. I hold the belief that humanity is well on its way to the peaceful existence we all so deeply wish for. We just have some growing up to do. I know that may sound like it simplifies some very terrifying and horrible things we see in the world today. That is not my intention, but I am intending to provide hope. A hope that we all can begin to tap into the deep love that Gaia holds for us, forever and always. A love that a mother holds for her child. Can we be outraged, hurt, and saddened by the things we see within humanity? Yes, a mother would feel those things if their child committed the ultimate crime. But the love is always there. The hope is always there. Patience and guidance are always there.

What can we do to serve humanity?

First and foremost, love yourself. Not only when you are coming out of a blissful meditation, just landed a great new job, started dating a really awesome person, etc. It is important to love yourself when you mess up. When you aren’t so nice to the person ringing up your groceries because you had a bad day, when you snap at your kids or spouse and say something you regret, when you get annoyed with your fur baby even! Do not beat yourself down when these things happen. We all experience these things. (Where do you think I got the examples from?) The important next step is to recognize that you acted in a way that made you feel worse, not better. Forgive yourself and give yourself grace. You aren’t perfect and you never will be. Offer forgiveness to those you hurt, and if that is not possible, take a moment to energetically send your love to those individuals. This same concept can be applied to humanity on the whole. Forgive yourself as a part of humanity for the mistakes you see being made in the world. Forgive those you feel are responsible and send them love. If that is too hard, send love to the individuals you believe are being affected and hurt. But I do encourage you to try to send love to those individuals or groups you feel you are at odds with. The ones on the “other side” of your belief system. Whether they are in your personal life, or a political leader. As they say, if you can heal yourself, you can heal the world. If you are reading this, you are needed. Your love is needed. It is a powerful force, and what I believe is the key to our emergence out of this phase in our development. Gaia holds this love for us, and I believe this energy has been gifted to, and lives in, each and every one of us as well.

Love & light always,

L.R.
